Glyphosate Toxic Chemicals Found in Synthetic Diapers

There is nothing like holding a newborn for the first time. They are so small and delicate with tiny fingers that barely wrap around ours. As parents or a loved one visiting someone with a newborn, we know to wash our hands before handling that little bundle of joy. A baby’s skin, especially a newborn, is very delicate and since it’s the largest human organ, what comes in contact with our little one’s dermis shouldn’t hurt.

What Does Synthetically Made Mean?

Ever hear of synthetically made products but not quite sure what it means?

[1] “Synthetic (adjective): of, relating to, or produced by chemical or biochemical synthesis especially: produced artificially.”

[2] “Synthetic (noun): something resulting from synthesis rather than occurring naturally especially: a product (such as a drug or plastic) of chemical synthesis.”

Synonyms: artificial, man-made, non-natural

~Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Understanding what synthetic means helps us to identify what to look for in terms of products that are safe for ourselves and our family. In other words, diapers that are synthetically made are non-natural and produced using artificial ingredients that are chemical based. Some harmful ingredients such as parabens amongst other chemicals in synthetically made diapers, not only can irritate the skin because they’re not hypoallergenic but are also endocrine disruptors, which can cause certain cancers, developmental toxicity, and early maturation in girls.

So, why aren’t more parents turning to naturally produced baby hygiene products? Lack of education and being uninformed are the two major reasons because the FDA doesn't regulate the ingredients in baby diapers. That’s why you won't find a content label disclosing ingredients because disposable diapers are one of the few items worn by babies that don’t require one. This is the reason some parents are switching to naturally made diapers.

Glyphosate: Dangers of Synthetically Made Diapers

A health agency teamed up with a study that uncovered glyphosate in European diapers along with 60 other harsh chemicals. So, what is glyphosate and what’s the big deal? Glyphosate is an ingredient found in Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer, which ultimately caused 70-year-old Edwin Hardeman to develop cancer.

According to reports, further chemicals found in these diapers included:

Glyphosate has been mostly used by farmers for agricultural weed control and is one of the world’s widest used herbicides.

World Health Organization offers the following claims about the leading herbicide ingredient:

“The herbicide glyphosate and the insecticides malathion and diazinon were classified as probably carcinogenic to humans.

Carcinogenic means “having potential to cause cancer.” This is obvious in  Edwin Hardeman’s case, who won an 80-million-dollar lawsuit against Monsanto, the weed killer company. There was no “probably” in Mr. Hardeman’s case, as the glyphosate enhanced weed killer did cause cancer. Can you imagine putting a diaper on your baby that not only contains glyphosate but 60 other harmful chemicals
